March is Bringing Renewed Energy and Opportunity to Shady Pines Story Town

March Is Full of Happenings

Here we go! Have you noticed Dear Readers that this is the month that kinda sneaks up on us? February is the shortest month of the year and maybe that has something to do with it. We’re still thinking February and then, BAM! The calendar flips and there it is – March is bringing in new energy and opportunities!

Now depending on where in the country you live, March weather either comes in like a Lamb or roars in like a Lion.

In parts of the U.S. the snow just keeps piling up. Very lion -like.

Here in Shady Pines Story Town it looks like we could get a little bit of both Lamb and Lion.

Milder temperatures are on the way but so are big thunderstorms that could be dangerous. We’ll have to keep our eye out for that. We worry about our neighbors when the weather turns serious.

First Things First

On a brighter note, just a few days into the new month we’re going to see a full Lunar Eclipse. Yep, we’ll be able to see a “Blood Moon”on Tuesday, March 3rd from 3:44am – 9:23 am EST.  You know Editor, Zulah Talmadge from The Shady Pines Gazette is all over that news.

“This is so cool,” says Zulah. “During the eclipse the Earth is acting like a giant umbrella, blocking the sun’s light from hitting the moon.”

There are other eclipses throughout the year of course. But we won’t see another Blood Moon again until 2029. Zulah stares at the photograph.

“The reason it turns the color red is because the Earth’s atmosphere bends the sunlight—like a sunset being projected onto the moon. I just love this science stuff!” says Zula.

Scoop, the Cub Reporter throws his camera gear onto his desk. He’s been out photographing the curent weather conditions. “I’ve got some real time science to report as well. Storm clouds are gathering out there Ms. Talmadge.”

Zulah looks up at him. “Hmmm. Let’s get your photos ready for a quick update tonight on our website. We need to keep our neighbors infomed. Please monitor the forecast, will you? I’ll write up something about the Blood Moon for tomorrow’s edition.”

Scoop smiles like he has a secret to share. “You know it’s called the “Worm Moon,” too.

Zulah sit up in her chair. “I did not. But I bet you’re going to tell why, aren’t you?”

Scoop nods. “It’s because this is the time of year when the ground starts to thaw and earthworms begin to wiggle out of the dirt.

First Day of Spring & More

Zulah snaps her fingers. She does that when a thought comes to her mind. “That reminds me Scoop. The first day of Spring is on Friday the 20th.”

Scoop agrees. “And before that, Ms. Talmadge, we have St. Patrick’s Day to cover on March 17th.

“We’d better get our running shoes on if we’re going to keep up with everything that’s going on this month!” says Zulah as she types quickly on her computer keyboard. Scoop is already hard at work editing the photos he took earlier.

Time To Grow

As you can see, new growth is all around and there is so much to experience in March. We can’t get into all right now.

But stay tuned. We will keep you informed. In the meantime, remember a new month is just another opportunity for a reset. With so many events coming up, look at all the ways we’ll have to re-connect with our neighbors, make new friends and build a better sense of community.

And that’s the way we roll in the small Southern town of Shady Pines where Kindness and Caring Lives!
