The Power of Appreciation!
Hi, I’m Edna, and I want to share with you one of my favorite sayings: “It’s the little things that count!”
You’ve probably heard that expression a hundred times. But, it’s so true. You can be having a bad day and then, suddenly, the grocery store clerk at the check-out tells you they really like the color of your sweater. They tell you it brings out the color in your eyes. That’s a simple thing, right?
But in that moment, when you needed a lift, they were there for you and you thank them very much. All of a sudden you feel better. And that’s the power of appreciation. You appreciate that this person, who you don’t even know, took the time to pay you a compliment.
I find that paying attention to even the smallest of kind gestures makes me want to do more to make other people feel better. For instance, when someone holds the door for me because my hands are full, I notice that. When someone helps me put on my coat, I know that person cares for me.
When my dog, Boomerang, or my cat, Halley’s Comet, cuddle with me when they can tell I’m sad, it reminds me I need to do that for others. If someone is sick, or in the hospital, you can make their day just by sending a get-well card or taking them some flowers. Maybe you can visit or bring them some hot soup. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
There are other ways to show your appreciation, too. You can do that by watering the plants around your house, feeding the fish in your aquarium, walking your dog, grooming your cat, or taking time to notice the beauty of nature that is all around us.
Think about how you feel when someone you love hugs you, or when they listen to you and try to help you sort out a problem. What about when you win a competition where you had to practice really hard, and someone tells you they’re so proud of you? Doesn’t that make you feel special?
I’d like to share with you the time my husband, Harold, did something for me that was very unexpected but oh, so, appreciated. He made me a gift that is one-of-a-kind and just meant the world to me. You can read about that by CLICKING HERE
These all may seem like little things. But it’s clear to me, if we all showed one another more appreciation, this world would be a much better place!
While you’re here, why don’t you check out our Mom’s Choice Gold Award winning Boomer and Halley book series?
